The Mommy Cofessions: I don't sing lullabies

”Mommy

All the books tell me to sing to my baby.  It's not that I haven't done any singing to soothe them.  I just don't like doing it.

But Lizzie, you're a singer!

I know!  I'm just not the kind of person who sings to themselves throughout the day.  I sing with a purpose--to practice.  Plus, I'm very self-conscious and I don't like singing "for" people like it's a parlor trick.  Not that singing for my children is a parlor trick, but I've been conditioned from the very beginning to be fully aware of the sound that comes from my body.

Singing is so, so personal to me.  Even Jamie has been asked if he gets to hear me sing at home.  His answer, of course, is "no."  Every now and then, he'll get to hear me sing along with the radio, but I don't practice around anyone, especially my family.

This is why there are so many lullaby cds on the market. You are not alone. Don't feel guilty.

When you explain it that way, it makes perfect sense. I'm not a big lullaby singer either, but that's more because I'm a lousy singer!

Don't feel bad , there is things that we cherish and you cherish those time when you are able to do it alone and when you feel like doing it ! Im sure if you had to do it all the time you would not enjoy it as much as you do ! Hope you have a awesome weekend !

I don't sing either-but it's because I'm awful at it. I tried when my son was younger, and he actually pretended to sleep. I gave up after that!

I'm so glad I'm not alone! I have never enjoyed singing on command and I'm not sure I'll enjoy singing lullabies...
