I'm getting down to the wire here. I wish I could say that I'm in labor RIGHT NOW, so I won't be posting for a day or two (maybe).
Thing is, with gestational diabetes, there are risks that I'm not willing to take. My OB has "taken the liberty" of scheduling a hospital induction. And my midwife (the one I'm seeing on the sly so I can have a Top Secret Homebirth (shhhh)), agrees that we should take any measure we can right now to get this show on the road.
I've been taking Evening Primrose Oil for the past couple weeks. Then I started some homeopathic remedies on Sunday. I'm also walking around with a makeshift maternity belt so I can get the baby into a better position. I don't think I mentioned that I have diastasis, which causes the baby to turn "sunny side up" and NOT put pressure on my cervix.
Who knew this would end up being so complicated?
Anyway, I'm going in for a "stretch & sweep" tomorrow.
Send me all your best labor-inducing vibes, gentle readers. I really hate that we have to intervene like we do, but it really does need to be done. And I'd rather not have to do the hospital induction. Been there, done that, don't want to do it again, thank you very much.

Bread & Butter
(Bread and Butter by Simply Frugal)
I miss it. The simple act of spreading a nice pat of butter over some warm bread. Eliminating carbs like delicious breads and rolls has been the hardest part of this gestational diabetes thing. I drooled over the crescent rolls I fixed for the boys the other night. Corey understands that I can't have sugar but my limited diet still freaks him out.
My numbers have been high in the morning, so I need to figure out the best bedtime snack to keep them down. Turns out a steak burrito isn't the ideal choice...

Living with Gestational Diabetes
(Blood glucose testing by 9-lives)
Today marks my first official day of my Adventures in Gestational Diabetes. So far, I'm not a fan of all the finger pricking, but hey, it's gotta be done. I learned a lot in my "class" yesterday about what I can and cannot eat. Not only will I be saying adieu to delicious, full-fat ice cream, I must also kiss ketchup goodbye. Well, I can have a tablespoon of it. I dare say that is not nearly enough ketchup for me. At least I can't have French fries either. I'm just so thrilled.
There are several good internet resources for gestational diabetes, though I haven't researched them all yet. One site my midwife recommended is the gestational diabetes page on plus-size-pregnancy.org ("It's not just for big ladies", she says).
There's also a support thread on Mothering.com and a thread for diet/meal ideas.
